Sincerely, Your Fans 2/27/09 With less than a second to go in a down to the wire game, Grant Marciniak tipped in a rebound that rolled around the rim like a Tiger Woods miracle putt going in. The Wolverines and the Mustangs traded the lead all game, keeping the fans on the edge of their seats. South pulled ahead by 5 points with 3 minutes to go, but couldn't sink any free-throws down the stretch and Chugiak closed the gap to tie it with 3.4 seconds left. But with one last push, Tanner Evans drove the length of the court and pulled up for an 8 foot tough lucker that popped into Marciniak's hands which he put back without ever touching the floor. It was a true team effort as 9 players contributed to the scoring. James Lorec lead the pack with 12 points. Lorec- 12, Wilson - 10, Crapps - 7, Evans - 5, Marciniak -4, Pesseto - 4, Engel - 3, Johnson - 2, Morell - 2. 2/21/09 For the third game in a row, the Southside Wolverine C Team jumped out to an early lead against Bartlett on Saturday. Their tough defense kept the Bears to just a few points as the Wolverines were able to capitalize on some good passes and shots. Even as they lost the lead, they kept the game within reach all through the first half. The second half, however, got away from them as poor passing and turnovers lead to a run-away win by Bartlett. James Lorec lead South High with 9, Jerrod Pesseto had 7, and Grant Marciniak added 6. 2/17/09 South High C-Team just wouldn't go away. They fought and scrapped and stayed within 10 points of Eagle River on Tuesday night at South. Their tenacious defense and scrappy offense got them back within 4 points with a few minutes left in the fourth quarter, but just couldn't close the deal. The Wolves pulled ahead in the end and beat South 62-49. Mike Wilson and Josh Crapps led the Wolverines with 10 points a piece while Tanner Evans, Teddy Engel, and James Lorec all added 6. South - 9 15 38 49 Eagle River - 17 28 43 62 2/14/09 The Wolverines shot out to a 16-4 first quarter lead in their game against Service with excellent transition play and good shooting. The solid shooting began to faulter in the second half, however, and the Cougars came back to win with outstanding free throw shooting and good poise against a tough press down the stretch. 2/10/09 The C team lost to the Thunderbirds at East 74 to 31. 2/4/09 The Wolverines took on the West Eagles in a hard fought game Wednesday night. The game stayed close the whole way with the scrappy young C-Team charging back to within four points with only a few minutes left in the fourth quarter behind outstanding defensive steals by Austin Morrell. But West's excellent free-throw shooting allowed them to survive the Wolverine's onslought and hold on for a win, 53-43. Grant Marciniak and Mike Wilson led South with 9 points each and Teddy Engel added 5. Ysmael Ancheta led all scorers with 14 points for West. South - 6 18 27 43 West - 12 25 37 53 1/31/09 The South High C-Team fought back after an early 9-0 deficit to tie the ACS Lions at 9-9 in the middle of the first quarter. Their tenacious defense and hustling offense pushed them out front by the end of the first quarter and they never looked back. It was a full team effort as James Lorec scored 10 points, Jerrod Pesseto 9, Mike Wilson had 8, and Josh Crapps added 6. They kept the Lions' at bay and led the last three quarters to win 46-32. 1/29/09 South got off to a quick start against the Chugiak Mustangs in the first game of the West C-Team Tournament. Solid shooting and good defense kept them ahead most of the first half. The second half belonged to the Mustangs however, with the Wolverines turning the ball over and missing some critical shots down the stretch. Chugiak held off South's full-court press in the fourth quarter to win 43-37. 1/26/09 The C-team Wolverines never gave up in a tough loss to the Dimond Lynx Monday night. They trailed most the game but continued to execute their full-court press and hustle until the final buzzer. They lost 79-41 to a very good shooting Lynx team. James Lorex led the Wolverines with 12 points and Tanner Evans put in 6 while Teddy Engel and Josh Crapps both added 5 each. Dimond's Osborne led all scorers with 13. South - 7 19 30 41 Dimond - 22 44 60 79 1/22/09 In a high-speed, fast-paced game, South battled the Palmer Moose on their home floor Thursday afternoon. After trailing most of the game, the Wolverines' full court pressure began to take effect in the third quarter and they were able to fight back from 10 points down to get within 2 points. But in the end, they couldn't overcome Palmer's rebounding advantage and outside shooting. Teddy Engel and James Lorec lead the South scorers with 9 points apiece in a 52-38 losing effort. Hanna led the Moose with 16 and Buresh added 12. 1/17/09 After trailing in the single digits most the game, the C-Team Wolverines slipped to an eleven point loss against Service on Saturday. They will take to the court again on Tuesday at Eagle River. 1/14/09 Game against East canceled due to icy roads and ASD school closure. It will be hopefully be rescheduled. 1/8/09 Homer/Kenai Trip canceled due to weather!! Next game at home against East on January 14th. 12/19/08 The C-Team Wolverines almost blew a 15 point third quarter lead against Anchorage Christian on Friday, December 19th. The team buckled down in the fourth and rallied back to win 54 to 51 on a last minute three by Tanner Evans.
