The Wolverines won the coveted 4A Boys Basketball State Championship Saturday night defeating Bartlett 56-54. South led by 16 early in the 4th quarter and appeared to have a commanding lead, but the Bears showed their worth staging a furious comeback to pull within two points. A missed shot in the final second prevented Bartlett from sending the game into overtime.

DJ Cousin was the scoring inspiration, leading the team with 15 points on 7-10 shooting. Anthony Cousin scored 12, Trevor Smith 11, Aaron Stevens and Kevin Cousin each had 7 and Nick Nolder and Patxi Colbern each had 2. stats

To get into the final game, we had to get past Juneau Douglas. Like Bartlett, Juneau fought hard in the fourth quarter to come close, 67-68. Anthony Cousin led all scorers with 26. Kevin Cousin had 15, Trevor Smith 11 (and 13 rebounds), Aaron Stevens 8, DJ Cousin 7 and Sterling Lopez 1.  stats

The win over Juneau placed us against the number one seed, Colony, who had a 20+ game winning streak. the Knights struggled to score throughout the game, losing 57-46. Anthony Cousin ran up 26 points followed by Aaron Stevens with 11, Kevin Cousin 9, Trevor Smith 7, DJ Cousin and Patxi Colbern with 2 apiece.  stats

Defensive Battle Favors South Over Service 49-46

The Wolverines played their toughest defensive game of the year limiting the high-scoring Cougars to just 46 points. The win locked up the 3rd place finish at Regionals and secured a 4th place seed at the State Tournament which begins March 20th. South will play Juneau at 3:30OM. The first round games are at West High. The remainder will be played at the Sullivan Arena.

Anthony Cousin played an exceptional game leading the team in an intense, full court 11-3 rally that overcame a 8 point deficit with only two minutes to play.  stats

Bartlett Beat South 70-63

The Bartlett Bears headed to the regional finals after winning their game against South, 70-63. Scoring for the Wolverines was Anthony Cousin with 15, Aaron Stevens and Trevor Smith with 13 apiece, Kevin Cousin 10, DJ Cousin 8, and Sterling Lopez 4. stats

South Wins Regional Opener Over West 69-54

For the first time in our school's brief history, the Wolverines moved to the second round of the Cook Inlet Conference Regional Tournament. The victory over the West Eagles was also a first after a string of ten losses in the past four years.

Anthony Cousin led all scorers with 24 points. Aaron Stevens had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Trevor Smith added 12 points, DJ Cousin 9, Kevin Cousin 8, Sterling Lopez 6 and Patxi Colbern scored 2 points. stats

Cook Inlet Conference AllStars Announced

Anthony Cousin, Aaron Stevens and Trevor Smith earned honors bby being voted to the conference allstar team. Honorable mentions were given to DJ Cousin and Kevin Cousin. Congratulations!

Despite Trevor Smith's double-double (20 points and 10 rebounds), the Wolverines were outrun by the Lynx at Dimond Monday night. A 25-13 run in the third quarter broke the game open. After Trevor, points were score by Anthony Cousin 13, Aaron Stevens 9, Sterling Lopez 7, Patxi Colbern 6, DJ Cousin, Kevin Cousin and Nick Nolder each with 4, and Anders Stadum with 2.  stats

South Stuns Service 73-69

The Wolverines continue to improve their game and knocked the first place Cougars down a notch. Aaron Stevens played like a man possessed scoring 23 points on 10-17 shooting and grabbing 10 rebounds. Anthony Cousin had 17 points and 5 assists, Trevor Smith 9 points, Kevin Cousin 8, DJ Cousin and Sterling Lopez each had 6, Nick Nolder and Patxi Colbern each had 2. stats

Friday is Senior Night is a big success! Thanks to all the parent volunteers for a job very well done. Seniors honored were Jevallye' Beverly, Anthony Cousin, DJ Cousin, Sterling Lopez, Nick Nolder, Trevor Smith, Aaron Stevens and Anders Stadum.

South Convincing in Win over Eagle River, 66-46

Trevor Smith shone brightly with 29 points and 9 rebounds. Aaron Stevens pulled 12 down for himself. Scoring for the Wolverines were Anthony Cousin 10, Kevin Cousin 11, Aaron Stevens 8, Trevor Smith 29, DJ Cousin 3, Nick Nolder 2 and Patxi Colbern 3. stats

Bartlett Slips by South 62-60

This game could have gone either way as it wasn't decided until the final seconds. The Wolverines were missing Aaron Stevens, but that was offset by big games from Sterling Lopez and DJ Cousin. Sterling led South with 14 points. Anthony Cousin and Trevor Smith followed with 13 apiece. Kevin Cousin made 9, DJ Cousin 8 (and 7 rebounds), and Patxi Colbern scored 3.

South Wins Squeaker over East, 63-62

A very determined, young East squad fought hard for 32 minutes and nearly pulled off a huge upset. After losing by 30 in the previous meeting, the T-Birds brought a new intensity to South and almost won.

Top scorer for South was Anthony Cousin with 19 points. DJ Cousin and Trevor Smith each tallied 12. Sterling Lopez and Kevin Cousin both made 7. Patxi Colbern and Aaron Stevens rounded it out with 4 and 2 respectively.

The West High Eagles took advantage of a pair of free throws with .5 seconds on the clock to rally past the Woverines last Friday night. The win placed them alone on top of the CIC standings. South is now tied with Dimond, Service and Bartlett for second place with records of 6-3.Trevor Smith wasour top scorer with 13. Anthony Cousin and Kevin Cousin each had 11, Aaron Stevens and DJ Cousin each had 9. Sterling Lopez scored 6 points and Nick Nolder 1. For box scores and statistics, click here.
